The State Fair

We went to the State Fair this weekend. I have not been since I was a teenager. (We are talking about 15 years) The kids have never been to a state fair. We went for a very special reason but I will get to that later. First we saw all the animals. Lots more Lamas and rabbits then I remember. We then went to the "kid zone" or something like that. Where they played and made some crafts. Clara rode a tracker and Joe roped a bull.

Joe and Ruby also went on a few rides. This was one of those huge slides three stories high that I cannot believe Joe went on. He is scared of heights! He doesn't even like to ride on Matt's shoulders because its too high. But he did, he put his hands out and slowed himself down but he did it. Ruby loved it and wanted to go on more thrilling rides but she was so sweet and went on the carousel and the swings with Joe because those are more Joe's speed. (in this picture they are on the left still climbing up to the top)

The real reason we went to the fair was because Ruby entered a couple of her scrapbook pages and a card she made. (a Sister in our ward is in charge of all this kind of stuff at the state and county fair so we were greatly encourage to do so. Thanks MaryEllen!) We had no idea if she won anything until we got there and found one of her pages. This one got 2nd place! That was awesome until.....

We found her other page that got 1st place!!! Can you do that? Can you take both 1st and 2nd place? Ruby can!

And then we found her card that won 1st place too! Man oh man was she excited. The prize for 1st place is a $5.00 check, so she has 10 big ones coming to her. She is already planning what she wants to make for the County Fair that is in the spring.
Ruby as many of you know is very artistic she does all her pages with no help form me. She very rarely will ask for my opinion or help with something and I only just give a suggestion that she either takes or doesn't. She usually improves upon what I suggest. She knows what she wants and she knows what she likes and does not like in scrapbooking and in life. She does however love to show me what she makes and wants my opinion and approval. So I give it! She is such a fantastic girl and we love her!

Here's a page she did just a few weeks ago. Her subjects are herself and Joe when he was a brand new baby. I love all the little details, my favorite is on the left side over the little clothes pin it says "Kids love is real".
